June 2023

This month at Nexus Recovery Center, we talk to Nexus alumna Natalia, who says that her time at Nexus helped her build a healthy and fulfilling life. We also recap the “Families Against Fentanyl” training we held last month and discuss how switching to cloud-based Electronic Health Records will help us better serve our clients. Finally, we take a moment to thank everyone who helped make our Second Annual Mothers Brunch a record-breaking success!

Nexus Partners with Welligent for Cloud-Based Electronic Health Records

On June 1, Nexus began using Welligent, a cloud-based Electronic Health Record (EHR) system. EHRs are real-time, client-centered records that make information available instantly and securely. This will eliminate the need to use paper charts for our clients, drastically increasing efficiencies, streamlining workflows, and improving client care coordination.

Nexus has been working with Welligent since December to creating a customized system that best meets the needs of the clients we serve. The six-month implementation process included three phases for planning, testing, and training. Using the Welligent system will help us continue to provide the highest quality care to women and their children in recovery!

Nexus Hosts Fentanyl Awareness and Overdose Prevention Training

Last month, Nexus partnered with the North Texas Behavioral Health Authority (NTBHA) and Shatterproof to host a free Fentanyl awareness and overdose prevention training for members of the community. This event, titled Families Against Fentanyl, featured overdose prevention trainings in both English and Spanish, hosted by NTBHA’s Josh Munkeby and Nexus’ own Lindsay Malhotra, respectively.

This complimentary community event featured free childcare from the Nexus Child Development Center, pizza, Narcan, and raffle entry for families. If you or your group are interested in learning more about the dangers of Fentanyl and what you can do to prevent an overdose, please email as at development@nexusrecovery.org.

Natalia Builds a Healthy and Fulfilling Life

Natalia J. is a 41-year-old woman who has undergone a remarkable transformation in her journey towards recovery. With deep gratitude, she can humbly share that it has been five years since she embarked on this path, one that is so very different and far more fulfilling than the tumultuous life she once knew. Natalia’s recovery date, a deeply meaningful and significant moment for her, occurred on November 7, 2017. It is through this journey that she has come to value the power of love, hope, and integrity, and the immeasurable benefits of healthy living.

“Before coming to Nexus, my life was one of chaos and turmoil,” Natalia says. “I was dishonest, cheated, and lied to those around me, including those closest to me who I hurt with my behavior. Simply put, my actions and behavior were not those of which I am proud. It was an exhausting and profoundly lonely existence that left me feeling helpless and lost. It wasn’t until I came to Nexus that I began to truly comprehend the impact of my actions and how much I needed to change to establish a healthy and fulfilling life.”

The residential program at Nexus provided Natalia with many valuable tools and resources to navigate the challenges of substance use disorder (SUD) and the rebuilding of her life. Natalia says that the group sessions were particularly impactful to her, and the staff treated everyone with empathy and compassion. During her stay, Natalia was provided with individualized care, comprehensive treatment plans, and a schedule that empowered her to achieve personal growth. Although Natalia’s stay was just over a month, the positive impact it had on her life has lasted a lifetime.

Nexus has transformed Natalia’s life in ways that she could have never imagined. “I am now living a life filled with love, hope, integrity, and health,” she continues. “My 9-year-old daughter and I are closer than ever. My parents’ unconditional love, unrestricted compassion, and their endless well of patience and support have genuinely impacted me and restored our relationship to one founded on mutual respect, love, and understanding. I have met an absolutely wonderful man who has been a great blessing in both my life and my daughter’s life.”

Currently, Natalia is a full-time homemaker and mother, which she finds incredibly fulfilling and rewarding. She is proud to be able to provide the love and support her daughter needs as she grows and navigates life. In addition to being a homemaker, Natalia works as a part-time delivery driver. She is grateful for this opportunity, as it provides her with a flexible source of income. Additionally, Natalia’s boyfriend has been a tremendous support, providing the financial stability her family needs, along with being a father figure to Natalia’s daughter.

In the future, Natalia and her boyfriend plan to get married and buy a home, which is a significant milestone for their family. They are excited about our future prospects as a family and potentially having another child. As Natalia looks to the future, she is keen to explore new career opportunities that offer more financial security while pursuing my interests and passions. Ultimately, her goal is to continue living a healthy, happy life, while helping others who may be struggling with substance use disorder.

“If you’re in the same shoes as I was before I came to Nexus, I would tell you that you’re not alone,” Natalia says. “Nexus has shown me firsthand that change and recovery are possible, and I believe that everyone deserves the same chance I was given. I would advise you to be honest with yourself and admit the reality of your situation, both to yourself and the people in your life who are willing to help. It takes time, commitment and patience, but with a solid support system, commitment, and persistence, I know that you too have the potential to transform your future for the better.”
