It’s not too late to get your duck in the race! Tickets available HERE!
Get ready to cheer, quack, and celebrate community at our 2nd Annual Duck Derby, hosted by our Young Supporters Council and chaired by Alexandra Hart. This one-of-a-kind fundraiser brings together playful competition and powerful purpose, all to benefit the children served through Nexus’ Child Development Center (CDC).
On Tuesday, September 9, from 6–8 p.m., guests will gather at a beautiful private residence in Preston Hollow for an evening of fun, food, and friendly competition. The highlight of the night? A lively rubber duck race, where sponsored ducks compete for the title of fastest in the pool. Prizes await the top finishers, so don’t miss your chance to see if your duck can claim victory!
Alongside the excitement, guests will enjoy bites from Palmer’s Hot Chicken and refreshing beverages provided by Ben E. Keith, a perfect pairing for this unforgettable evening.
We are deeply grateful to the sponsors who have already stepped up to support this event including Quacker Backer: Frost Bank, Hollow Park Capital, Moses Heating and Air/Kelly Roberts, and RDS Door & Windows LLC; Lucky Duck: Dani Bree-Bialek, Hernholm Logsdon Family, Ellen Johnston, Karl G. Lakepointe Church Volunteers Bring Joy and Support to Nexus
Nexus was recently thrilled to welcome a group of dedicated volunteers from Lakepointe Church for a day of service. The team jumped right in to support our Pregnant and Parenting Women with Children (PPWC) program, bringing smiles, energy, and care to the women and children we serve.
Volunteers helped host a field day for our clients and their children, serving snow cones, organizing games, and lending a hand in the kitchen. Their presence created a fun and meaningful day for families working hard on their journey to recovery.
At Nexus, volunteers like those from Lakepointe Church remind our clients they are not alone and that the community is standing with them in support and hope. These acts of kindness not only brighten our campus but also strengthen the spirit of resilience that fuels recovery.
💜 Interested in making an impact? We invite you to share your time and talents with us. Visit nexusrecovery.org/volunteer to learn how you can get involved. Together, we can lift women and children toward brighter futures.

North Texas Giving Day: Join Nexus in the #JumpForRecovery Challenge
It’s that time of year again! North Texas Giving Day is here, and Nexus is taking it higher than ever before with our boldest campaign yet: #JumpForRecovery.
This September, we’re celebrating National Recovery Month with a community-wide challenge that symbolizes the leaps women and families take every day on their path to healing.
The CEO Challenge: Our fearless leader, Heather Ormand, CEO of Nexus, has pledged to take a leap of her own—literally. If Nexus reaches our $100,000 goal for North Texas Giving Day, Heather will go skydiving for the very first time. Her jump represents the courage and determination that women at Nexus show each day as they rise above the challenges of substance use disorder to reclaim their lives and reunite with their families.
Double Your Impact: Longtime Nexus supporter Emily Wickard, Founder and Owner of Avara, has generously pledged a $25,000 matching gift. This means every dollar donated up to $25,000 for North Texas Giving Day will be DOUBLED, multiplying the impact for the women and children who depend on Nexus’ life-changing programs.
In addition, Nexus has been selected as one of 10 organizations to receive a special matching gift through North Texas Giving Day thanks to the generosity of Wayne White, Communities Foundation of Texas President & CEO. Every donation made will be doubled up to $10,000. This means your gift can go twice as far in supporting the women, children, and families we serve.
Early Giving is Open Now: While North Texas Giving Day officially takes place on Thursday, September 18, early giving is already underway! That means your gift can be made today and still count toward our goal.
💜 Join the movement: Make your gift, spread the word, and help us reach new heights for the families we serve.

Amanda’s Story: From Darkness to Hope
Amanda’s journey is one of heartbreak, healing, and hope. Lost in substance use disorder and feeling completely alone, she came to Nexus at her lowest point, unsure if change was even possible. What she found was support, compassion, and the tools to rebuild her life.
In her own words, Amanda shares how Nexus helped her find strength, restore relationships, and rediscover her purpose. Her story is a powerful reminder: recovery is possible, and no one is beyond hope.
“Life before Nexus was unmanageable, destructive, and I didn’t know where to go or where to turn. I was lost, broken, and hurt. I had caused irreversible damage in my children’s lives and my actions caused me to no longer be able to see them, and my addiction had caused me to lose contact with my family. My marriage was failing, and I was losing more and more of who I was every day. I knew that I needed help but I didn’t have the tools to get away from the drugs, the people, and the lifestyle.
From the first day of walking into Nexus, I felt hope. I was scared, yet so at home from the first moments. I was given a bed in the Detox dorm, and that is where the change began. My techs were attentive and non-judgmental, my counselor was understanding and listened to me, and took the time to give me basic suggestions to get my life back on track.
Nexus helped reveal to me my strength to walk through trauma-not only what had been done to me, but what I had done to others as well. Nexus showed me how to start loving myself again, despite what I had done. The Nexus staff began to show me a better way of thinking, how to process my feelings in a healthy way, and gave me a new way of life.
My life has completely changed since my time at Nexus. I have begun to repair relationships with family, which is the most important thing for me. I have women who support me in this walk. I have embraced the new way of life that Nexus taught me, and in that, I have found myself again. I have found my purpose in life, and I am committed to giving back what was so freely given to me. I thank God for Nexus for giving me my life back, for loving me when I didn’t know how to love myself, and for all their dedication, and time, and wisdom that they put into women like me every day. We do recover!”
