Building Futures, One Holiday at a Time
The holidays are a time for building memories—gathering with loved ones, sharing gifts, and celebrating traditions that bring joy and togetherness. For women and children in recovery, the season can mark the start of rebuilding their lives and creating joyful new traditions.
At Nexus Family Recovery Center, the journey to recovery is about more than overcoming challenges; it’s about creating a foundation for brighter tomorrows. This year, Nexus has empowered over 3,500 women to rebuild their lives, equipping them with the tools to heal, reconnect with their families, and create safe, stable homes.
For many mothers, the holidays bring a chance to share these hard-earned victories with their children—decorating a small tree, exchanging simple gifts, and building memories filled with joy and gratitude. These moments symbolize not just recovery but the beginning of lasting traditions and brighter futures.
For over 53 years, Nexus has served as a community of hope and resilience for women and their families. As we celebrate this season of giving, your support can help mothers in recovery give their children the greatest gift of all: a future filled with love, hope, and countless happy memories.

Resilience in Action: Nexus Navigates Recovery Rising Construction
At Nexus Family Recovery Center, resilience is not just a value—it’s a way of life. As we embark on our Recovery Rising campaign, this resilience has been critical to ensuring our operations remain strong during a time of tremendous growth and change.
The Recovery Rising campaign is a bold initiative to raise $86 million, addressing Nexus’ most pressing capital, programming, and capacity reserve needs. By 2031, our vision is to transform the campus and double its capacity to serve even more women and families on their recovery journeys.
We’ve already begun work on Phase 1: Stepping Into Recovery, focused on the construction of the Doswell Medical Building, generously supported by the Doswell Foundation. This new facility will serve as the gateway to our campus, housing Admissions, Detox, and Medication Assisted Treatment programs.
Amid the construction, the Nexus team has worked tirelessly to maintain seamless operations. The Operations team has risen to every challenge, navigating office moves, adapting workflows, and ensuring minimal disruption to the care and support we provide. Their efforts have kept Nexus operational and thriving during this period of transition.
Despite the logistical challenges of this ambitious project, Nexus remains committed to our mission. Our ability to continue serving clients while reimagining our future reflects the dedication of our staff, the generosity of our supporters, and the strength of our community.
As the Recovery Rising campaign progresses, we look forward to the completion of this transformative project and the opportunity to impact even more lives. Thank you for standing with us as we rise to meet this moment of growth and change. Together, we are building a brighter future for women and families in recovery.

Building Hope, One Step at a Time: Kaitlyn’s Journey of Recovery
Recovery is a journey of transformation—a process of rebuilding hope, trust, and life itself. For Kaitlyn, that journey began at Nexus Family Recovery Center after years of struggle and heartbreak.
“I was homeless, alone, and lost,” Kaitlyn shares. “I burned all bridges with my family and friends. My mother had custody of my two oldest children, and I was using heroin. I didn’t see a way out.” Nexus became her foundation for recovery, providing a safe, supportive space to heal and grow. Through their programs, Kaitlyn discovered new tools to overcome her substance use disorder and pathways to recovery outside traditional 12-step programs. “I found mine in spirituality and church,” she says. “I joined a worship team and found a community that believed in me.”
When she became pregnant with her third son in 2019, everything changed. Devastated by a doctor’s warning that her baby might have Down syndrome, Kaitlyn realized she needed help. That’s when she found her way back to Nexus—her second time at the center. “Nexus welcomed me with open arms,” she recalls. “Counselor Sara Brown guided me and allowed me to make my own decision to keep my son. They didn’t judge me or look down on me. They saw me as a person, not as a failure or an addict.”
Today, Kaitlyn celebrates six years of sobriety. Her son is now a healthy, perfect five-year-old. She is married, has reconnected with her two older sons, and treasures her relationships with her mothers, father, grandmother and sisters. Perhaps most inspiring of all, she has come full circle, now working as a Recovery Coach at Nexus to help other women find their way. She is also serves on her church’s worship team and is a children’s ministry leader.
“Nexus gave me a second chance at life,” Kaitlyn says. “But they need your help, too.”
