Nexus Gets New Vans Thanks to Hoblitzelle Foundation and the Hillcrest Foundation

Nexus has recently received generous grants from Hoblitzelle Foundation and the Hillcrest Foundation to purchase new vans for client transportation, to replace the high-milage vehicles we are currently using. Because most of the women we serve are low income and the need for transportation is high, these grants will allow us to provide reliable transportation to women and families who are in need of our services.

Nexus’ vans are used to transport clients for medical appointments and emergencies. In addition, our drivers can transport clients to court cases and Child Protective Services appointments, as well as transporting them from bus stations and other locations to Nexus because they do not have the financial means to do so. This reduces their reliance on public transportation, where they may encounter barriers to their recovery.

Having reliable transportation helps ensure our clients’ road to recovery and equips them for life after Nexus. Thank you to from Hoblitzelle Foundation and the Hillcrest Foundation for making this possible!

Dallas County Officials Visit Nexus Campus

Last month, Marcus Turner Jr. (pictured right) and Shenna I. Oriabure from Dallas County Department of Criminal Justice stopped by for a tour of Nexus. As part of their work with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), they spoke to Nexus’ Chief Clinical Officer Stacey Burns (pictured left), Director of Admissions Sharon Jock, and Director of Adult Women Kira Casimir, about services, opportunities, future projects, and barriers at Nexus.

We were happy to welcome Marcus and Shenna to our campus, and we are thankful for our partnership with Dallas County and their continued support of the SAMHSA project.

Kaitlin Tells Her Story on FOX 4

Nexus Recovery Coach Kaitlyn Jackson recently appeared on a FOX 4 segment about how Nexus is lobbying for an increase in funding from the State of Texas amid a surge in demand. In this segment, Kaitlin talks about how Nexus helped her overcome a ten-year substance use disorder, and how she now works to help other women on the road to recovery.

“I’ve walked in your shoes. I’ve been in your situation. I’ve dealt with CPS, I had a drug addiction, and I can help you if you allow me to walk with you,” Kaitlin told FOX 4’s Shaun Rabb.

Thank you to FOX 4 News for sharing Kaitlin’s recovery story! Click the button below to watch the full video.
