Exciting Partnership with Mark and Rachel Rohr Foundation Announced!
As a residential program, clients live on campus until completing treatment, at which time staff make sure they have stable housing for outpatient recovery. Filling in the gaps to these resources is necessary for continued sobriety.
We are thrilled to announce that The Mark & Rachel Rohr Foundation has awarded Nexus Recovery Center a generous $25,000 grant dedicated to enhancing safe and supportive post-treatment housing for Nexus clients. This grant aims to address the critical need for secure and supportive housing solutions for women completing treatment at Nexus. As part of this collaborative effort between the Foundation and Nexus, research will be conducted on the current and future housing needs of Nexus clients and focus on identifying the necessary resources for securing safe, supportive housing, and assessing the impact of such housing on the clients’ and their families’ recovery journeys.
Nexus Director of Outpatient Services, Lindsay Malhotra shares, “We are proud of the support The Rohr Foundation brings to Nexus Recovery Center as we continue this vital work. We look forward to seeing the positive outcomes this partnership will bring.” Stay tuned for further updates on how this grant is making a difference in the lives of women and their families.
Community
Sorority Day of Service
Recently, members of the Dallas-Fort Worth Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Lambda Gamma National sorority donated their time to helping out in our Nexus campus kitchen preparing and serving a hot meal to our moms in recovery and their families.
The Dallas Fort-Worth Alumni Association (DFWAA) is an organization dedicated to providing a network for Sigma Lambda Gamma alumni in the Dallas Fort-Worth area. The DFWAA prides itself on being a diverse group of women with a wide range of academic and professional backgrounds who have a desire to continue their commitment to Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority, Inc. DFWAA grounds themselves in the principles of Academics, Community Service, Cultural Awareness, Morals and Ethics, and Social interaction.
Sigma Lambda Gamma DFW Alumnae Association’s VP of Marketing Quintana “Soraya” Gest says, “We chose to volunteer at Nexus to continue to support our community and give the resources we have to better support and build up the world around us. We value the empowerment of women and believe that women empowering women is invaluable. We really enjoyed this opportunity and are looking forward to future volunteer opportunities and building our partnership with Nexus!”
We are grateful for DFWAA’s generous act of service!

Dana’s Story of Resilience
Dana, 51, knows recovery isn’t linear. She most recently came to Nexus in 2021, having first arrived in 2001, several months pregnant with her second child. “My oldest daughter was living with my mother. I checked myself into Nexus because I worried that my unborn daughter would not test clean, and that Child Protective Services (CPS) would get involved.” Her pregnancy was induced 21 days later.
In 2001, Dana came to Nexus because “word of mouth— all the girls talked about Nexus and how they took pregnant women.” After she got out of jail, she joined the Pregnant and Parenting Women with Children Program (PPWC) program. After she was discharged, Dana says, “I had a sponsor and attended some of the meetings, but I wasn’t fully committed.” This intermittent engagement with Nexus would continue for another 20 years.
On June 25, 2021, “I felt like my eyes were opened.” Dana had seen flyers that her sponsors had posted looking for her in South Dallas. “I realized I didn’t want to do the drugs; the drugs were doing me.” Dana went home to a negative reception and ended up being found guilty of drug possession charges. Shortly after that, she reconnected with Nexus. “I’m successful today because of the referrals I received at Nexus.”
Today, Dana is officially off probation, gainfully employed, happily married, involved in her children’s lives, and has been in recovery for three years. That baby girl from 2001 is on her way to a master’s degree. Dana thanks God and Nexus for the resources, support, and confidence provided through their staff and programming all these years and says, “I am grateful for the doors of Nexus. There is a better way to live.”
