Rise Up
Campus Construction Update
Nexus is proud to announce significant progress in our Recovery Rising capital campaign, a vital initiative to address our most pressing capital, programming, and capacity reserve needs.
The critical first phase has focused on the new Doswell Medical Building, which will serve as a gateway to the campus. It will house essential services, including Admissions, Detox, and Medication-Assisted Treatment, offering a welcoming, dignified space for women and their children to begin their recovery journey.
Construction of the Doswell Medical Building is advancing rapidly, with completion anticipated by early May 2025. Here are some key updates on its development:
- Roof Installation: 45% complete
- Fire Protection System: Over 50% complete
- Interior Framing: HVAC system, plumbing, fire protection, and interior framing are all in progress
- Equipment Procurement: Refrigerators, microwaves, and laundry equipment are in the process of being ordered
- Furniture has been selected and ordered
This project is a cornerstone of Nexus’ vision, ensuring every client is met with compassion, respect, and dignity.

Nexus Receives a $500,000 Donation from the Constantin Foundation for Recovery Rising Campaign
Nexus Recovery Center is excited to announce a generous $500,000 donation from the Constantin Foundation, a Dallas-based private family foundation, in support of Phase I of the Recovery Rising capital campaign. This transformative gift will help fund the Doswell Medical Building, a state-of-the-art facility designed to expand and enhance Nexus’ services for women and children affected by substance use disorder (SUD).
The Constantin Foundation is dedicated to improving the quality of life in Dallas County and North Texas. Its support for Nexus addresses the urgent need for family-centered treatment in the region.
Phase I of the Recovery Rising campaign includes increasing detox bed capacity, expanding admissions to seven days a week, and offering enhanced medical services. With $8.4 million of the $10 million goal already secured, the Constantin Foundation’s contribution is critical in bringing this vision closer to reality.
“We are profoundly grateful for the Constantin Foundation’s belief in our mission,” said Nexus CEO Heather Ormand. “Their support ensures women and children receive the dignity, privacy, and evidence-based care they deserve.”

Kelly’s Journey to Recovery and Renewal
Vanessa has been sober since December 1, 2022 and her story is one of resilience, hope, and profound transformation—a testament to the life-changing impact of Nexus.
Vanessa grew up with a foundation of morals and values. At the age of 17, she became pregnant and got married. She dedicated herself to raising her children until she turned 35, but then she lost touch with her family and children and her youngest daughter was removed from her care by Child Protective Services (CPS).
Her substance use led to devastating consequences—she lost relationships with her family and children and found herself homeless. These painful experiences marked her lowest point and ultimately became the catalyst for her seeking help.
With the support of her stepmother and father, Vanessa found her way to Nexus where she participated in various programs, including detox, aftercare, and outpatient services. Vanessa particularly valued the women-only environment at Nexus, which allowed her to stay focused and build empowering relationships with others who shared similar struggles.
While at Nexus, Vanessa learned to confront deeply rooted issues, including past traumas that had been unknowingly impacting her. Nexus equipped her with tools to recognize triggers and adopt healthier coping mechanisms.
Her recovery has also had a profound impact on her family. Vanessa has reconnected with her children, who have witnessed her growth and resilience.
Today, Vanessa is thriving. She has been employed at Walmart for over a year, earning a promotion just six months into her role. She recently achieved a significant milestone by purchasing a car, a symbol of her independence and progress.
As she reflects on her journey, Vanessa is proud of her accomplishments, including rebuilding her relationship with her children and creating a stable, fulfilling life. “Thank you for saving my life and giving hope to women who think there’s no way out,” she said.
